Mr. and Mrs. Capelle are Romiette's parents. They are African American and live in Cincinatti. Cornelle Capelle is a well-known and well-liked local newscaster. He reports that there is no gang activity in the city, which he realizes is wrong when his daughter becomes the target of gang activity. Lady Capelle is regal and connected to her roots. She owns an African boutique in the city.
Luis Montague is Julio's father. He is short-tempered and prejudiced. He doesn't want his son to associate with Romiette because he fears her involvement in gangs, since as a teen Mr. Montague's girlfriend was killed by a group of African Americans. He learns to overcome his prejudice, just as Mr. Capelle must overcome his mistake.
Mrs. Montague is friendlier. When the parents all meet at the police station following their children's disappearance, the two mothers have a polite chat while the fathers are wary of each other. Eventually, the fathers team up to search for the children and admit and overcome their prejudices. It seems that, when comparing the parents, the mothers are more alike and the fathers are more alike. The parents are different ethnicities, but they are similar in their love for their children.
