How were both of the Wes Moore's similar and different in The Other Wes Moore?

Both the author Wes Moore and the other Wes Moore are similar, but also very different. Obviously they both have the same name and grew up in the same neighborhood in Baltimore. They were both raised by single mothers who tried to provide the best life they could for their children. They both didn't have a father figure in their lives and both had a very hard and troubled childhood. Thus, both of them were forced to grow up too soon and deal with responsibilities and situations that they couldn't really understand.
The author Wes grew up knowing that his kind, loving, and, sadly, ill father died in the hospital, while the other Wes grew up thinking that his alcoholic and selfish father didn't want to do anything with him and refused to be present in his life. The authors Wes's mother was a strong, independent woman who loved and cared for her children, while the other Wes's mother chose fun, flirting with men, and partying over her children. The author Wes had two sisters, while the other Wes had an older brother who wasn't a great influence on him. Perhaps the most important difference between the two Wes Moores was the fact the the author Wes had an opportunity to get an education and took it—he went on to have a successful and comfortable life and learned to properly navigate adulthood. The other Wes, on the other hand, acted as people expected him to act; he became a criminal and was soon sentenced to jail.
