In American culture, gender is mostly binary and categorized into male and female. Despite this, there has been a rapid acceptance of transgender people. Men are viewed as protectors and providers. Today’s social media pages are filled with images of muscular, alpha males who are used to sell brands because they represent the ideal image of a man. On the other hand, women are represented in a feminine way by dressing suggestively and on most occasions using makeup.
Hondo by Louis L’Amour is a book that suggests various perceptions of gender that are still applicable today. Hondo Lane, the main character of the book, is portrayed as the perfect man. He is adventurous, has an attractive body, and is good at protecting himself. The characteristics of Hondo still resonate today when it comes to what society expects of a man. Therefore, a good thesis that can be used in your literature cycle project is the following:
Despite significant strides being made over the years in the fight for gender equality, men such as Hondo Lane are expected to continue playing the role of the alpha male by the society.

I have to write a critical essay about how gender is defined and represented in American culture and the American success story. What would be a good thesis statement that follows this outline and is suggested in Louis L'Amour's Hondo?
