Was Millard Fillmore a vice president?

Interestingly enough, Millard Fillmore was only elected as vice president. He served as the vice president to Zachary Taylor, who was elected in 1848. Taylor was elected but had refused to identify with either of the major parties of the time, in spite of previously being associated with the Whig Party. In order to placate the party at large, Fillmore was selected as his running mate, and, upon winning the election, Fillmore became vice president. Taylor passed away in 1850, a mere 16 months after being sworn in as president, from a stomach related disease.
Millard Fillmore succeeded Zachary Taylor as President and presided for the remaining 2 years of Taylor's term. Ultimately, however, in the coming election, Fillmore lost to challenger Franklin Pierce.
