The regime of Bashar Al-Assad has committed an on-going genocide against the Syrian people as the death toll since the Syrian Uprising in 2011 has reached over 500,000 people. The involvement of European nations within the Syrian Civil War has resulted in the increase in proxy battles as Russia, Iran, the US, and Turkey vie for power in the area. These proxy battles are framed as support for "liberation", but as history and present-day contexts teach us, these nations' involvement in wars is rooted in securing political, economic, and resource control. The Syrian Civil War began as a mass uprising against the regime of Bashar Al-Assad. The war has increasingly turned into states and factions vying for power as the people of Syria are murdered and displaced.
