In Chapter 5 of the famous horror novel Dracula by Bram Stoker, Lucy Westenra confides in letters to Mina Murray that three suitors propose to her in the same day.
The first person to propose is Doctor John Seward, a psychiatrist and administrator of an insane asylum. Lucy does not accept his proposal, but he continues to be concerned for her well-being, and when Dracula begins to stalk Lucy and her health deteriorates, Steward cares for her. When he is frustrated in his ministrations, he calls for Abraham Van Helsing, who is able to determine that Lucy has been bitten by a vampire.
The second person to propose is Quincy Morris, a wealthy American from the state of Texas. Lucy does not accept his proposal either. At the end of the novel, Morris helps Jonathan Harker find and kill Count Dracula, but he dies in the process. Harker and Mina name their baby Quincy in his honor.
The third proposal comes from Arthur Holmwood, the son of a British Lord who inherits his father's title upon his death. Lucy accepts Holmwood's proposal. Holmwood himself is the person who drives a wooden stake into Lucy's heart after Dracula has changed her into a vampire.
