How and why did the United States became a superpower from the Spanish–American War to the present and what are the historical relationships between foreign policy and domestic affairs?

If I were writing this paper, I would focus on how the resolution of the Spanish-American War of 1898 led the United States to becoming a world superpower through its acquisition of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippine Islands. As such, the United States became an imperialist force within the world and has continued to act as such to this day. Additionally, the Spanish-American War of 1898 shifted the United State's foreign police from being fairly isolationist to being incredibly militarily and economically involved in foreign affairs. Since 1898, the United States has been consistently involved in foreign wars. These wars of aggression or military interventions have been directly related to consolidating American power, resources, and wealth around the world. This aggressive foreign policy tendency was directly born from the Spanish-American War. Additionally, the increased power and presence of the United States in military foreign affairs has directly led to booms in domestic war-time economies, as well the strengthening of racist and xenophobic domestic policies in relation to immigration and domestic race relations.
