One very positive aspect of Donald Trump’s leadership is the interest that his style has encouraged in examining the concept of leadership as related to the executive branch. Prominent presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, among others, has examined the element of “temperament” in Donald Trump as compared to that of previous presidents.
A feature that can be called positive or negative is the use of an executive order to shut down the federal government. Both houses of Congress then approved a bill that rejected this emergency declaration, showing a rare degree of bipartisan agreement. The president then issued his first veto. While the shutdown itself was harmful, the effect of congressional unity and the related scrutiny of the relationship between the president and the Constitution were positive.
