The ending of the book begins at Dumbledore's funeral. Afterwards, Harry discovers that the locket he possessed is not the genuine Horcrux, as he had initially thought. Instead, he finds a note inside the locket that is signed by an acronym, "R. A. B." Harry also decides to end his relationship with Ginny because he feels that continuing their relationship would put Ginny in grave danger. In the final scenes of the book, Harry is visibly distraught over the death of Dumbledore, especially the events that led to his demise. This retrospection influences Harry to not return to Hogwarts, and he tells his close friends this decision. After telling Hermione and Ron that he will seek Voldemort's Horcruxes, the two friends decide to go with Harry to destroy Lord Voldemort.
