During the Corinthian War, Corinth formed a coalition with Thebes, Athens, and Argos. The allied forces united against the common enemy, Sparta, and their coalition was supported by the Achaemenid Empire. Basically, The Corinthian War began after the Peloponnesian War, during which Sparta managed to defeat Athens and its allies. At first, it was just a conflict between Sparta and Thebes, but soon Corinth, Athens, and Argos decided to join Thebes in the fight against the Spartans.
At the beginning, the allied forces were also backed by the Persian Empire; however, as the war came near its end, the Persians decided to switch sides and began helping Sparta instead. The Persian Empire didn't originally plan to join the war; however, they saw the conflict as an opportunity to meddle in Greek politics and establish their influence. In the end, Sparta managed to keep its hegemony over the allied forces.
