What is the reason behind the fact that that Daisy wants to control childbirth in The Painter of Signs?

Daisy, an Indian woman and a devoted feminist, is determined to make birth control accessible to those who can bear children in her community in order to enable women to fight against misogynistic control and to allow access for personal freedom and individual choice. Daisy is a smart, creative woman who refuses to simply be married thus be confined to housework. Daisy also believes that India is suffering from an over-population problem and seeks to introduce birth control as a solution to this issue, particularly in rural areas. This introduction of birth control would aid in the population problem as well as afford women more power to make their own decisions about when and if they want to have children.
