The outcome of the election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump suggests that there is no correlation between massive spending and winning the elections. The estimated general spending by the Trump campaign was $340 million, which was nearly half of that of the Clinton campaign at $581 million. One can argue that, based on the facts, the Trump campaign would not have been successful if they did not splash on TV ads and digital advertising—they would have lost. The influence of outside groups also played a major role, as the Trump campaign only gained momentum after these groups invested a lot of money into the campaign. The numbers show that Hillary Clinton would have won the election if it was not for that last-minute push from the outside groups.
