What does the constable tell the Fosters about the man in the yellow suit?

It's Chapter 20 of Tuck Everlasting, and Mae has just smacked the man in the yellow suit in the back of the head with a gun. The reason for this sudden burst of violence is that the man grabbed Winnie and was trying to run off with her. He wanted Winnie to drink the water of eternal youth to show more effectively the power of the magical spring.
Anyway, it's too late for him to find out, as he's now lying motionless on the ground. But as the constable points out, the man isn't dead yet, and so he goes off to fetch him some medical assistance. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on one's point of view, the doctor is unable to do anything for the man in the yellow suit, and he dies.
Later on, the constable swings by Winnie's place and tells her father that Mae Tuck is now a convicted murderer. Before she goes to sleep that night, Winnie decides that she will do anything to save Mae from the gallows. For if the authorities try to hang Mae, they'll realize that she's immortal and the Tucks's secret will be exposed to the world.
