Paul's pretty upset that his dad is familiar with every last detail of all the football games that Erik's played but doesn't know the first thing about his soccer activities. Paul calls him out on this, and in his defense, Mr. Fisher says that this is a big season for Erik as it could give him his big break in pro football. That's why he needs to concern himself so much with Erik to the detriment of Paul and his own sporting activities. It also explains why he was blissfully unaware of the recent championship soccer game in which Paul played such an important part.
Mr. Fisher's excuse is pretty unconvincing, to say the least, because it's not just this season that he's focused so intently on Erik's potential football career, but every season. Mr. Fisher had plenty of time to watch Paul's soccer games but chose not to. This is a symptom of a wider problem, for Mr. Fisher always chooses to spend more time with Erik than with Paul, and for as long as Paul can remember, has always shown quite blatant favoritism towards his eldest son.
