Who rescues Gandalf, Bilbo, Thorin, and the dwarves from the wargs and goblins?

In Chapter 6, the goblins and their wolf-like Warg allies outnumber Gandalf, Bilbo, Thorin, and the dwarves as they are passing through the Misty Mountains. The group have hidden themselves in trees, which the goblins have lit on fire. The noise and smoke gains the attention of the Lord of Eagles, leader of the Great Eagles of Arda, an immortal and gigantic species of bird. Gandalf is an ally of the Great Eagles, who are enemies to the goblins. The Lord of the Eagles carries Gandalf on its back, and other eagles fly the rest to the safety of their eyrie (a large nest). The characters spend the night in the eyrie, and the eagles hunt and return with animals for the travelers to eat.
