What happens after Satan and his cohorts wake up and find themselves in Hell?

After their defeat by God, Satan and his fallen angels find themselves in a place of utter darkness that Milton states should be called Chaos because heaven and Earth (and hence hell) have not yet been created.
Satan and his minions have been cast onto a burning lake. Satan wakes up first, astonished and disoriented, and he then arouses Beelzebub, who is his second-in-command. Satan, who is ever energized towards doing evil, is able to talk to Beelzebub and convince him that they can still fight back against God. Here, Satan delivers some of his most famous lines, such as that it is "better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven" and that the mind by dint of its own will "can make a Heav'n of Hell, a Hell of Heav'n."
Having devised a plan for revenge, Satan now wakes up his legions of demons and persuades them to follow him into further battle to thwart God.

Satan and the host of fallen angels awake on a fiery lake after his pride causes him to attempt to overthrow God in Heaven. Upon waking up, he is filled with despair and, more importantly, hatred for God. After waking up, he calls his host to him on the edge of the lake. He decides to attack Earth in response to God’s rejection, and leaves to find the throne of chaos to guide him to Earth. From there, he flies to Earth and tricks the angel Uriel into taking him to the garden of Eden. After listening to Adam and Eve, he travels to Heaven to attack God but is ultimately cast out. After losing the battle, he resolves to travel back to Eden and ruin humanity, God’s ultimate work. He becomes a serpent in the garden to tempt Adam and Eve.
