What does Aunt Monie do in Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim?

Mildred, known as Aunt Monie, doesn't have a profession. Though her age is never explicitly stated, Sedaris makes it seem as though Aunt Monie is at least of retirement age at the time of their first meeting (and if she ever held a job, it seems to be unknown to reader and author alike).
Aunt Monie amassed her fortune through inheritance. Her first husband was the owner of a Cleveland department store, which she became owner of once he died. Her second husband owned a tool-and-die manufacturing business that was bought out by Black and Decker. He also passed away, leaving her with another fortune. While we don't know exactly how much wealth she acquired (or how much was left to David Sedaris's mother), we know that she lived in an opulent home with a full time staff, including a chauffeur.
