Globalization impacts the security paradigm by increasing areas of insecurity within the existing system as the global system becomes more complex. Greater globalization can mean different and conflicting worldviews coming into contact more regularly, along with greater rates of unhappiness and discontent in Western nations as wages languish, leading to internal and external tensions.
An increase in security complexities and challenges (e.g., more and bigger targets, new ways to disrupt the financial system or exploit security flaws inherent in the global system) has led to an increase of regional and international terrorism, in part as a response to the twenty-four-hour news coverage around the globe and increased media coverage. States have responded by working to share counterterrorism information and to collaborate in order to help ensure international stability and adequately confront threats as they arise.
