Camp Green Lake shares some similarities with traditional camps, yet it is also vastly different from them. One of the similarities is that the boys live on the edge of the wilderness. Many camps are set in forests or out near a desert so that the people at them can easily go camping, hiking, or do other outdoor activities. Additionally, the boys all live in a large, communal cabin with bunks. In many camps, people are grouped into cabins and take on a sort of cabin identity.
Most camps, however, do not engage in rigorous manual labor for “character development.” This is one of the punishment aspects of Camp Green Lake that is uncommon to most other camps. However, many camps do have physically strenuous activities and may even do things like searching for treasure (prospecting for gold, perhaps).
