What anomaly occurs in chapter 8? Is it the snow flakes?

You are right that the anomaly—what is unusual—in chapter 8 is the snow that falls. It is unusual for snow to come at all to Maycomb, Alabama. The temperature, in fact, dips all the way down to 16 degrees, the coldest Atticus can remember it being. Scout thinks the world is coming to end when she sees all the snow, but she later gets into the spirit of it. She and Jem make a snowman that looks like Mr. Avery—an unflattering portrait of him, but fitting, as he made the two of them feel guilty by attributing the cold and snow to their bad behavior.
This is also the chapter in which, despite the snow and cold, Miss Maudie's house catches on fire and burns down, making this an eventful time for Scout and Jem. It could also be considered anomalous or unusual for a house to burn down in the midst of such a cold snap.
