In Monster, what does Acie say about his upcoming verdict?

Acie is the inmate in the cell next to Steve's. He's been accused of robbing a check-cashing place and shooting a guard. These are clearly very serious offenses and Acie could go to prison for a very long time if convicted. Acie tries to be stoical about his predicament; he says he doesn't care whether or not he'll go to prison. As far as he's concerned, he did what he had to; besides, he was planning on paying back the money he stole, anyway. All that matters is that God will understand why he did what he did and forgive him.
Nevertheless, despite his bravado, Acie starts to cry. Straight away, Steve starts to wonder about his own case. And we, as readers, start to ask ourselves whether Steve will show the kind of bravery displayed by Acie, only to crack under the strain. Or whether perhaps he'll accept his fate and leave everything in God's hands.
