James Baldwin and Martin Luther King's writing (and speaking) styles are similar in the sense that both Baldwin and King are capable of attracting the audience's attention and keeping it to the very end. This is not because of their amazing vocabularies and in-depth knowledge of many subjects, or because of their intelligence and creativity; it is because of their ability to connect to the people, no matter their race, ethnicity or religion. King and Baldwin weren't very imaginative or poetic, but they were very honest and inspiring.
One of the main differences between the two is the fact that Baldwin's style is very realistic, and he often encouraged people to accept themselves no matter where they are or who they are with; for instance, in his letter to his nephew titled "My Dungeon Shook," Baldwin alludes that racism exists and will continue to exist in the future, no matter what. Those who realize that it is wrong are truly defying the system. King's writings and speeches were more motivational in comparison and inspired people to try and change the situation and the reality they were living in; he believed that people are capable of tolerance and acceptance, and all they need to do is act on it. He encouraged people to stand against racial injustice and promote kindness and equality.
