Among other characteristics, Nya can be described as tenacious, someone who never gives up, no matter how hard life may be. But then again, she has to be like this. For Nya and her loved ones, this is literally a matter of survival. If she gives up the ghost then she won't be able to walk several miles a day to fetch water. And if she's not able to fetch water, then she and her family will suffer. If Nya wasn't tenacious to begin with, then she certainly is now, and that's due to the long, arduous trek she has to make each and every day.
One could also describe Nya as devoted. She fetches water not just for herself, but also for her family, who rely on her to make the journey to the large pond. The very fact that she walks such long distances over such harsh terrain every day bears eloquent testimony to how much Nya cares for her family, how utterly devoted she is to their welfare.

In A Long Walk to Water, what is a good description of Nya?
