In Life of Pi, how did Piscine Molitor overcome the stigma associated with his name at his new school?

Pi Patel's full name is Piscine Molitor Patel; he was named after a famous swimming pool and hotel complex in Paris. His unusual first name sounds a lot like "pissing," and so, unsurprisingly, he becomes the object of merciless teasing at school.
Young Patel gets around the problem by simply changing his name to Pi. This name, though equally unusual, does at least have more serious connotations. It is the name given to the famous mathematical constant used to define the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It also perfectly encapsulates young Patel's personality in that this number is full of contradictions and transformations. Pi is an irrational number, one that cannot be expressed by any combination of rational numbers. As well as expressing Piscine Molitor's personality, pi also foreshadows the seemingly irrational and contradictory experiences that Pi will encounter on his long journey.
