The answer to this question is very much up to individual readers. Feel free to explain why you would have acted the same or differently. Personally, I think I would have reacted very much the same. Gregor woke up to find that he had been transformed into a bug, but he doesn't quite come to grips with it at first. This makes sense. Upon just waking up, especially from a strong dream, it is sometimes common for a person to confuse reality with the dream. As he gains more and more consciousness, he works on figuring out how he can avoid work and people in general. Again, this is something that I would definitely do. As his family gets more and more worried about Gregor, they try to get the door open by asking Gregor to open the door. Gregor refuses. He's a bug not fully in control of his body. That's scary, and it makes a lot of sense that he would try to delay letting anybody else see him. I suppose the other reasonable response would have been to call out for help immediately. This only makes sense to me if Gregor absolutely trusts his family members with something so embarrassing, and based on his reaction to hide, this response doesn't make sense for Gregor.
