How would you describe the setting of Good Night, Mr. Tom?

Good Night, Mr. Tom takes place in England during the beginning of World War II. It tells the story of a young boy, Willie Beech. He is originally from London, but he is sent to the English countryside to escape his mother, who abuses him emotionally and physically. During this time, many children were sent to the English countryside because it was deemed safer than the city of London, especially with the Second World War about to break out. After leaving London, Willie lives in the village of Little Weirwold with a widower named Tom Oakley, who is in his sixties. Over time, Willie and Tom develop a strong bond as Willie begins to adapt to his new life and do well in school.
