Phoenix Jackson is making what for her is a long, arduous journey to a medical clinic to get some medicine for her son. Though an old lady who can only walk with the assistance of a cane, Phoenix regularly makes the whole journey on foot from her home out in the sticks to the city of Natchez, Mississippi.
After what seems like an eternity, and after experiencing a number of mini-adventures, Phoenix finally rocks up at the clinic. When she waddles through the door the first thing she sees is a document stamped with a gold seal in a gold frame, hanging up on the wall. We must assume that this is some kind of medical diploma, a sign of the doctor's professional credentials. It matches the dream hung up in Phoenix's head. The old lady has a vivid imagination, and she's forever day-dreaming. But thankfully this doesn't prevent her from carrying out the important task of obtaining medicine for her son.
