Some of the critics of religion mention how it can make people entrenched in their own ideas, particularly in regard to science. Historically, religious organizations like the Catholic Church have been opposed to viewpoints that challenge their worldview. In this way, some may say that both religion and zoos can keep people in a cage, though I believe that religion is much more enlightening than that simple comparison implies.
Another similarity between religion and zoos is that both allow us to examine nature. Religion can be used to explore and understand human nature, morality, and human desires, focusing on the innermost workings of the soul. Zoos do the same for the physical world, offering us an opportunity to examine the natural world and the lives and characteristics of the animals kept inside.
